Stop Before You Disappear

We walk through the city, passing people who move as if someone handed them a silent instruction: Don’t look into anyone’s eyes. Don’t listen. Don’t think. Screens in their hands, notifications in their ears, and their hearts… somewhere between a wall and an elevator.

I watch it and wonder: when was the last time we truly saw the person next to us? Not their profile, not their filtered selfie, not the carefully edited version of their life. I mean the human being—the one who feels, longs, fears, laughs for no reason at all.

The world is loud, and somehow we have learned to whisper only to ourselves. It’s faster to scroll than to pause. Easier to imitate life than to actually live it. And yet the echo of our choices always returns—sometimes as exhaustion, sometimes as a quiet emptiness we can’t quite explain.

We live in an age where the most radical act is simply to stop. To look someone in the eye. To smile without a reason. To speak without a phone between our fingers. Small rebellions, invisible to the world, but enormous for the soul.

This column is not a lesson and not a sermon. It’s more like a warning: if we don’t slow down for a moment, life will pass us by unnoticed. Not as a tragedy, not as a catastrophe—just as silence, where the only thing left is the echo of our own absence.

So stop for a moment.

Before you disappear.
