BELLA ARGAZAM PHOTOGRAPHY
Sometimes I like to sit in a café or on a park bench and watch people pass by.
A photographer has that privilege — the ability to observe without rushing.
The world speaks more then than people intend to say.
More and more often, I see the same scene.
Two people sit across from each other. The silence is no longer the good kind of silence, the one in which something ripens. It is the silence of screens. Fingers slide over glass, as if real life were somewhere inside the phone.
Once, to show interest in someone, you had to look.
To walk up.
To take a risk.
Today, a double click is enough.
A small movement of the thumb. A heart appears on the screen. And that’s it — interest checked off, emotion registered, contact made. Without a trembling voice, without uncertainty, without that beautiful moment when you don’t know if the other person will respond.
Sometimes I think that many people online no longer choose a person.
They choose ease. Because a person is complicated.
A person is silent, makes mistakes, sometimes looks into your eyes for so long that it becomes uncomfortable.
A double click is simpler.
It asks no questions.
It requires no courage.
And so, slowly, a world has emerged in which hearts appear faster on a screen than in someone’s eyes.
That’s why I like watching people in real life. Photographing them in the moment when they don’t know someone is looking. For a second, the whole network disappears then — all the filters, all the little hearts.
What remains is something more difficult, but more beautiful.
A human being who hasn’t yet replaced a gaze with a double click. ❤️
