LIFE IN BLACK & WHITE

In European cultures, the colour black is traditionally associated with funerals and mourning.

At the same time, it also symbolizes elegance, sophistication, and mystery.

In contrast, ancient Egyptians and Indians perceived black as the colour of life and regeneration.

In Chinese culture, black is linked to happiness, strength, and the vitality of youth.

I think and see in black and white — because there is no white without black,

just as there is no good without bad.

Black-and-white photography holds a unique kind of magic.

It is the art of capturing essence rather than surface,

of revealing detail and conveying emotion.

It invites us to notice atmosphere — once we open our eyes and allow ourselves to truly see.

In my view, the subtle play of feelings and emotions can be expressed most fully in black and white.

The absence of colour shifts our attention:

with only two tones, we focus on the gaze, facial expressions, and inner states — not the distraction of the background.

We begin to notice the details, not just the image as a whole.

In the end, it is all a matter of opening your eyes — and allowing yourself to see.

“Reality is more real when it is painted in black and white.”
